Lalu’s Stained & Fused Glass
Jay & Laura Johnson
Mancos, Colorado
Located in the Mancos Valley we are at the base of Mesa Verde National Park. With easy access to the Park, I am always finding new inspiration to bring to my studio.
We have been making stained & fused glass art for over 20 years. I try to bring an Impressionistic spin to my work as in a painting. Items such as trees and fused flowers indicate a picture of nature, and my abstract pieces bring a sense of whimsy. I enjoy what I do and always finding new ways to “spin” my art.
As I look out from the studio, I gaze at our two dogs Molly & Ellie as well as two house cats Missy & Muffin and our studio cat Finn. Our little farm has vast views of the valley and cattle ranches which are enjoyed by our two chickens and the yard protector Mary the Goose!
Jay has a Fine Arts Degree from California State University of Fullerton. His specialty was in ceramics, and he owned A Stone’s Throw pottery studio in Southern California. After moving to Lake Tahoe in the 70’s and later to the current location in Mancos in the 90’s he and Laura took up stained glass studying under June Simon Studios in Evergreen Colorado. Laura brings her ideas of whimsy and creates most of our smaller pieces using both stained & fused glass.
